Samsung?
"smartctl" reports sometimes such a failure especially for Samsung disks
- seems to be a false error.

Both the short and long offline tests completed without error.

You can see it got warm but not too warm last summer here, the
other numbers seem okay?

HDD came in an Acer Win7 x64 touch screen PC... Since OP it seems
it's not GPT format, I've yet to try other tools that might recognise
the on-disk partition layout.

There's EPT, I don't know what else yet -- take my time and explore,
this is biggest HDD I've played with.
