Hi Sue, I guess I just wanted to know to what extent the widgets on the various keyboards reduces the need to reach for the keyboard/mouse for typical use cases. I'm still feeling my way around to find an optimal working arrangement so, I may be worrying needlessly. Right now, I'm stuck with multiple DAWs (was SONAR + some FL Studio until you guys convinced me Reaper was worth a shot too!) so I'm on the lookout for anything that eases the pain of using the various DAWs for common use cases. I tried using an MO6 as the controller but gave that up real quick (it works well as just a keyboard controller but added zilch to the workflow). Will probably plop for the Axiom given it has more widgets, better vendor/user support than the others and, it is well supported by my fav box-o-tricks - Reason. I had my sights sets on the CME UF7 too initially (the extra keys would be useful) but I can't find the buggers anywhere and the newer UF70 seems to offer less but costs more? Kay
From: Sue Morton on 20 Apr 2008 13:54 What does "common use cases" mean for you? Can you elaborate on what you most often do? I'm not sure there's a standard :-) Have you looked at control surface interfaces instead of doing everything from a keyboard? My space is arranged so I can easily reach either one. Something to consider if you have the $$$ and the room to accomodate both. If you have an existing keyboard you like you might look to add a control surface instead of a new keyboard? -- Sue Morton Kay wrote: > I guess I just wanted to know to what extent the widgets on the > various keyboards reduces the need to reach for the keyboard/mouse > for typical use cases. Control surfaces?. **waddles off to Google** Aha!. They sound like what I was describing with the workflow comments. The Tascam FX1xxx series look interesting (as does the M-Audio ProjectMix). I'd still rather have one that was integrated into a controller keyboard. As it is, I don't think either of those will fit into my work triangle (ok, on my desk).... Hs anyone here used the AlphaTrack single (or other single fader) control surface controllers?. With SONAR? (also interested in FL Studio, Reason and Reaper) Any other recommendations?. I do much more recording/editing than mixing if that helps to narrow the field. Thanks Kay
