That's the first version of Eudora I used IIRC.

The fact that changes in the way things were done meant that v3 became
impossible to use with my ISP (or indeed with most ISPs).

And it turned out that the replacement for v3 - v4 - which had a fix for
this problem, well, that was ad-funded or payware because Eudora was now
under the control of Evil Fascist Bully-Boys at Qualcomm is why I
changed to a different email client.

A rather more expensive one, but still...

And it turns out that I rather prefer Mailsmith's attitude towards
various functions, even if Eudora 3.1.3 light has a better UI.

And now Mailsmith is free. Rotten UI in all sorts of ways, bloody
marvellous function.

But then Qualcommn bought the rights, and it went so wrong...

I forget the details, but v3 didn't let you enter your setup data
(username, password, server names) in a fashion that worked with `The
way we're doing things from now'. I forget the details, it was so long
ago - but whatever: Eudora 3 became impossible to use due to changes at
the server end.

Due to changes at the server end at almost all ISP which meant that the
old method of data-entry failed, most of us users of Eudora 3 had to
stop using it.

Which is why I - and pretty much everyone else - had to stop using
Eudora v3, because it became impossible to use it with most ISPs.

I was using Demon, and it remained fine. Still is, with 6.2.4.

I remember people having trouble with Eudora 3.1.3 light and needing to
upgrade to v4 to get round the problems.

.... I too had trouble due to wholesale changes at the ISP/mail server
end (they all changed, pretty much); I got a different email client
entirely because I didn't like what Qualcomm was doing.

I don't recall the details, but it was mostly down to the need to enter
your email address as:

<username>@<POP-server-name>

> Still is, with 6.2.4.

But Eudora 6.2.4 is not Eudora 3.1.3 light, which will not work with
modern email servers.

It's not `just like it's always been'.

All you're saying is that you'd upgraded from Eudora v3 by the time
Demon got round to making the changes which stopped Eudora 3 working
with Demon email.

No. I'm saying that I switched to 6.something of my own accord.

I never had the problems with 3.1.3 that you seem to have had, but as
6.2. was a free download anyway (I was always using it in Light mode) I
just used it with the same Eudora Folder. It automatically reorganised
the position of the Mail folder, and carried straight on as before.
Ludicrously, I still have mail dating back to '98.

Which is in perfect agreement with what I wrote, so `No' is wrong.

> I never had the problems with 3.1.3 that you seem to have had,

The problems I had were the problems that `everyone else' had, and they
were caused by changes at the server end.

If you did not meet those problems, then you upgraded to a more capable
version of Eudora before problematic changes were made by your ISP.

Simple things like the need to enter your username(a)pop-server meant that
Eudora Light 3.1.3 lost the ability to work with at least one mail
server I used back in the day, due to the format of the username I had
to use, which contained an `@'...

<shrug> As you'd expect - my Eudora email is availble in Mailsmith, of
course. I had to drag-and-drop my Eudora email folder on to Mailsmith,
but that's all it took.

I should have some email dating back to 1993/94, somewhere...
