From: HBEd on 10 Jun 2010 03:03 I cannot believe how simple this was to fix, after a month of searching I finally found a thread that contained the fix. 1) disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software (not certain this has anything to do with it) but I followed these instructions exactly and was successful. 2) Turn off User account control(UAC) . Restart the computer. you will be able to install the updates. If not install those updates manually. It should work. To turn off User account control(UAC), click on start-> control panel-> user accounts-> Turn user account control on or off-> Uncheck the box provided-> Click on OK and restart the computer . (In the case of windows 7 UAC adjustment, bring slider control allthe way down to the bottom (UAC diasabled) Then restart pc. Then try your windows update. It worked for me... Be certain to re-enable anti-virus and firewall, and UAC if you so choose. Here is the thread where I found the answers: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/6e716883-7af4-4a9f-8665-2f4dd57eee8d/ Best regards, HBEd "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > DO YOU SEE *ANY* OTHER THREADS IN THIS NEWSGROUP ABOUT THAT ERROR? > > HBEd wrote: > > I am receiving the same error code 646, last month (5-2010) it was those > > same two updates.
