In the link that is provided by you, there is a link to http://pecl2.php.net/downloads/php-windows-builds/php-libs/binary-tools.zip which does not contain any freetype libraries. Also i downloaded the php-5.3.1 zip source from php site. Another thing, the php-5.2.x builds fine with my setup, but its failing only for 5.3.x (As i said, php-5.3.x builds fine with --without-gd option).
