From: Enrique on 29 Sep 2005 09:59 I'm attempting to create a mirrored boot volume on a Windows 2003 Server by using the "Create and test a mirrored system or boot volume" documentation (See: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/f/?en/Library/28af1c0d-8490-4ab0-8be0-49e5923c4bae1033.mspx ) .. After completing step 7 and clicking on Add Mirror I get the following message: Logical Disk Manager could not update the boot file for any boot partitions on the target disk. Verify your arcpath listings in file boot.ini or through the bootcfg.exe utility. I'm not certain what should be in the arcpath listing, but here is what's in my boot.ini file. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows Server 2003, Standard" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut What, if anything should I do to address the error message?
From: Vincent Xu [MSFT] on 30 Sep 2005 02:07 Hi Enrique, The LDM will only make very basic changes to boot.ini. It is not intended as a complete replacement for an admin modifying boot.ini manually or with bootcfg.Removing write permissions will prevent boot.ini from being modified. Please refer to : Windows server 2003 Mirror: <http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techr ef/en-us/Default.asp?url=/Resources/Documentation/windowsserv/2003/all/techr ef/en-us/w2k3tr_ddisk_how.asp> 325879 HOW TO: Create a Boot Disk for an NTFS or FAT Partition in the Windows http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325879 Hope it helps.
