My automatic updates is disabled and when I enble it and select Start on the
service status, I get error message 1058 saying the service cannot be started
either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated
with it.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Is the Sevice named Windows Defender deactivated ? The sevice need to be set
to manual or automaticly to start
MsMpEng.exe(exe-name for app Windows Defender )
