I'm using Eudora from a little time but I am not ablle to solve that problem. I don't know if it is a problem of OpenSSL library but I have to tell you I have configured Eudora with Win XP (SP2) compatibility. My problem is very very tedious. Is there a easy way to verify if my problem is OpenSSL library?

If your symptoms (longer time for first SSL connection, then no more delays) match that thread, then I believe that it must be due to the OpenSSL library, for reasons explained in great detail in that thread. Such work-arounds as are at present and may in the future be available are also given thorough exploration in that thread, so I can think of nothing else to add here. http://eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?t=14440 --

Yes my problem iit is but with my bad english if I've got it right I have to keep my problemat all times till when I will replace Eudora. ;)

So why did you ever replace that perfectly good older Windows? ;-) If you simply keep Eudora running all day (and use "sleep/standby" instead of "shutdown" for Windows, thus saving all that much longer wasted "start over" time), then this "problem" is quite insignificant, as it also is if you can even find something else to do for a single minute, while OpenSSL starts up under the weight of W7. As the previously mentioned thread says, one person claimed to eliminate the problem entirely by setting "compatibility" back to a much earlier version of Windows (we don't know for sure, however, whether they got any new problem in exchange for eliminating the old problem). If OpenSSL shortens its startup delay for Win7, then you can just replace Eudora's two OpenSSL ".dll" files. The previous thread mentioned how to get OpenSSL updates; I have, for example, replaced OpenSSL version 0.9.7 (the one provided with Eudora 7.1) with version 0.9.8l, and it keeps on working as before -- version 0.9.8l, however, has not yet fixed the "long initialize" issue, which is longer in Windows 7 than for older versions of Windows (the more bloated Windows gets, in other words, the longer it takes to scan its garbage heap to initialize the SSL random number generator :) Doesn't a well-shuffled SSL "deck" at least make you feel more secure? ;-) -- |
