I have a Windows Storage Server 2003 that is asking to activate Windows
(which was done over a year ago). The event log error is:

Event ID: 1000
An error occurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product
license. Error Code: 8: 0x8004b039

I have done the following to try to remedy this, but with no luck:

* Checked permissions on wpa.dll
* Ran regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll and licdll.dll
* Replaced OEMBIOS.BIN from another working system
* Threatened to drop the server from a tall building if it didn't stop this
nonsense

There haven't been any hardware changes.

When trying to activate, I cannot do so over the INternet because it reports
the activation period has expired. Clicking Activation via Telephone does
not pull up an Installation ID. I tried to change the product key by
entering the COA, but the Installation ID still does not appear.

I am able to boot in Safe Mode.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

LDoyle - probably cannot help much - however if computer can boot into safe
mode but is problematic booting normally - the usual culprit is a driver.

You may consider selecting bootlog option and evaluate last entries.

Thanks for the suggestion. The server boots fine. We're able to get to
files on it. The only problem is accessing it using the console or terminal
service; the WPA won't go away.
