I recommend that you edit bootstraprc to create a separate user profile folder. That way you can run either (in parallel and at the same time if you wish so that you can do comparisons). I just completed ripping out all instances of OOo regardless of version, and re-installed the Ubuntu Synaptics version which was 3.1.1, and all is fine now.
