From: Bob Newman on 4 Jan 2010 21:21 I have a netbook (Toshiba), when I hook up my external monitor the right hand edge of the screen is "chopped off". ie on the desktop I only see the left side of my clock widget, the right side is off the screen. In the taskbar I cannot see my icon for the volume control as it is "off the screen". I know the answer to the problem has something to do with the setting for the dual monitors in the Control Panel/Display/ section but I can't find the right setting. I know it is there because I called Toshiba once before for this problem and changing the setting fixed it right away. I'm embarrassed to call them again. Help please. Bob

Many monitors have an auto button that should fix it for you. Some you can adjust the monitor manually. And if this all fails, you should adjust the Display properties in the Control Panel to another resolution. -- Bill Gateway M465e ('06 era) - Windows XP SP2

Google will probably find brand-specific solutions if you search for "toshiba netbook adjust" 2. Generally PCs have two sets of monitor controls: -- hardware, via physical control buttons, to control the image's size and position on the monitor; -- software (for the display adapter), which sets the colours and size of the image (in pixels.) Uses can use software controls to maximise readability and then hardware controls to position the readable image as they prefer. 3. When you find the correct adjustment method for your Toshiba netbook, write it down. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

Bob ------------------ I wonder how many people use the external monitor option. I have, since XP days, and always use a larger external monitor, to maximize the available geography. Now Windows 7 has created a problem that did not exist in XP or Vista. If the top of the external monitor is higher than the laptop's screen, screen-saver "slide show" pictures have their tops chopped off at the level that the external monitor's height exceeds the laptop's height. The only solution I have found is to put the laptop on something to make the top edges even. Not a big deal, but annoying! Maybe our problems are related? Ideas, anyone? TIA, Paul

Right-click on the desktop, choose Screen Resolution and move one of the monitors vertically until you get the effect you want. Alternatively, you might try making the external monitor the primary one. Of course, you can use both. Mike
