From: JF Mezei on 17 Jun 2010 01:30 Anyone got any wind on whether Apple will produce a "Facetime" application for the Mac ? Seems like it would be a very logical addition to allow someone in an office to have a video call with someone on the frield with an iphone4. The gospel according to Jobs (aka: keynote) mentions Apple intends to make this an open standard.

Any reason to think they wouldn't just make iChat compatible with it? -- Plain Bread alone for e-mail, thanks. The rest gets trashed.

But I was under the impression Ichat required a server. Then again, the Facetime application may have a hardcoded Apple server in there. The way I understand Facetime, the calling iphone is able to get an ip address of the called iphone by telling someone the called party's telephone number, after that, the 2 phones can talk to each other directly via the internet. Will be interesting to get more details on this.

There is absolutely no news on this, and no rumors I've seen either. > Seems like it would be a very logical addition to allow someone in an > office to have a video call with someone on the frield with an iphone4. It certainly is. Adding it to iChat seems like an obvious move. I'm guessing we'll see it when 10.7 comes out, whenever that is. > The gospel according to Jobs (aka: keynote) mentions Apple intends to > make this an open standard. If they follow through, someone will integrate it, even if Apple doesn't do it themselves. -- Tom "Tom" Harrington Independent Mac OS X developer since 2002 http://www.atomicbird.com/

And the Facetime buddy list is your address book. |
