From: Ken1 on 23 Jan 2010 01:40 I was transferring my 2009 messages to new 2009 mailboxes - selecting and then right clicking, choosing transfer and finding the required mailbox. Worked fine except for OUT. I selected the emails but, while I was locating the 2009 out mailbox, the transfer took place - apparently to nowhere - I have no been able to locate the emails in any other mailbox and they have gone from my out box. Any suggestions?

There is an undo, under edit, or use Ctrl-Z. This of course is for the latest action, or series of actions. Then there is the "recent" under the mailboxes menu, for similar purposes. I know about the inadvertent dropping of messages into the wrong place ... I also use the find function for messages that may have wandered from their supposedly assigned locations <grin>. -- Best regards Han email address is invalid

Will the selected messages have been stashed somewhere? Are they recoverable?

If you know a word that is more or less specific for one of the messages, you could do a CTRL-F for that word "anywhere" in all mailboxes. Works for me. -- Best regards Han email address is invalid

This is typically the result of an accidental mouse click, on some mailbox other than the one intended. Undo (Ctrl+Z) has already been mentioned, but of course must be done immediately, else it's probably too late for that easy and instant reversal. Since Eudora preserves each original "Out" mailbox just before any occasion which "compacts" it (and also does the same for "In"), you may also have an extra copy of some older version(s) of your "Out" mailbox. Although your transferred messages are not actually lost, you could nonetheless set aside these previous (duplicate) versions of the "Out" mailbox, and you could even peruse them to find some specific examples of messages that you want to search for elsewhere, to locate where you moved the originals: http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2651hq.html Meanwhile, you could try a "Find Messages" search for: Headers, does not contain, "Date:" Look for some mailbox containing an unusually large bunch of these, which may happen to be the ones you are looking for. > Thinking further about what happened, I may have clicked on 'New' > and generated a box to name the new thread [?] but I think I closed it > because, at that point, I did not understand the 'new' option. "Transfer" [menu] "New" simply lets you create a new empty mailbox (or even folders and then finally a mailbox), which then becomes the target for your transfer, in a single operation, thus saving one or more steps. If you chose "new" but did not complete the creation of any new mailbox, then no transfer would have taken place. > Will the selected messages have been stashed somewhere? Are they recoverable? Neither ships nor messages ever sail off the edge of the Earth; they simply go wherever you accidentally told them to go, until you seek and find them :) http://bible.cc/matthew/7-7.htm http://bible.cc/luke/11-9.htm -- |
