Hans, in case you still have that need, you can surely do that kind of stuff with shell and Perl scripts: just look at the "What's next" section of http://freesoftware.zona-m.net/why-and-how-opendocument-format-can-save-you-lot-time If you can follow that approach, you don't even have to _have_ OpenOffice installed, except, probably, to run it at the end of the process, to convert the OpenDocument files to MS Office formats. The easyness with which everybody can do this kind of things with OpenDocument is, in and by itself, enough of a reason to abandon MS Office formats for good, in favor of OpenDocument HTH, Marco --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org

Mike, first a general comment: > As you say, it's not that hard to do the coding. I just looked at > http://ooolib.sourceforge.net. there is a great (if only psychological) difference between something like ooolib, even if it were up to date, and the scripts I'm publishing at http://freesoftware.zona-m.net/odf-scripting. The latter are much less elegant, but surely work wherever there is standard perl or bash available, that is even in Windows with cygwin, without installing anything else. When you have to use Perl modules, even on Linux, it is very likely you'll need some manual installation/configuration and update. With respect to this: > FWIW I have web page for automatic generation of service sheets for > church... If the OP is still interested, I could supply example > scripts for that and a certificate generator (used by my wife for > her music pupils). I don't know about the OP, but I'm definitely interested to see that code online, please do it. If you don't know where to publish it and/or it's not documented, I can help with that: just send me the bare scripts and I'll put them at http://freesoftware.zona-m.net/ with an explanation on how to use it. Obviously everything would be under open licenses as everything else on that website, and I'll giving full credit to you as the author! But again, if you want to publish anywhere else, that's just as fine, as long as we get to see the code :-) Ciao, Marco --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: discuss-unsubscribe(a)openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: discuss-help(a)openoffice.org |
