Hello vincent,

1. In the Site Actions menu , click Site Settings.
2. On the Site Settings page, under Galleries, click Site columns.

Can you find the column definition of "Comments" here? If so, how many of
the "Comments" is there in the list? Normally, there should be only one
under "Core Document Columns". Can you click "Comments" to edit it here?

Sincerely,

Luke Zhang

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/support/default.aspx.

Hello,

You may first backup the site, for example with stsadm.exe:

stsadm.exe -o backup -url http://server_name/site -filename file_name.dat

Then remove the field type Comments in Site columns Galleries, by enter the
Comments column and click "Delete" button.

And then create a new column with same name "Comments", with the type
"Multiple lines of text ", and the group "Core Document Columns". And then
reboot the site.

Will this help on the issue?

Sincerely,

Luke Zhang
