Hi,
I'm running Slack 13.0 x86_64 with 4Gb RAM and a Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550
@ 2.33GHz
Firefox 3.6.3 takes 90 seconds to start.
And process firefox-bin is using 1.2Gb RAM according to system monitor -
when it's doing nothing.

This is awful slow compared with Firefox 3.0.19 on Slack 12.2 32bit on
the same PC.

Anybody any idea what's wrong or how to improve the performance?

Cheers,
Peter

Could be ipv6 look ups, other checks and prefetch.

I disabled ipv6 on my Mandriva Linux, made my own index.html home page,
told firefox to not call home for update/extension checks, no
safebowsing, disabled ipv6 and disabled prefetch.

Snippet from my user.js file found where you have your prefs.js file.

Hi BitTwister,
Thanks for your suggestion.
In fact I just did something brutal - uninstalled firefox completely.
Then reinstalled it. The problem has gone!
Now starts virtually instantly, and only uses about 100Mb RAM.
I wonder if the previous installation was broken, as I have upgraded
through several version of firefox, always using upgradepkg.
Tonight I did a removepkg followed by installpkg.
Cheers,
Peter
