That specific enclosure was used as a 24/7 backup on a QuickSilver Dual G4/1,8ghz (originally a 867mhz, FW400 only) and is now running as a 24/7 backup disk on my MacPro - with a larger harddisk - and it hasn't been turned off now for more than 4 years! I have 6 pcs. of these Mercury enclosures - all with 400 and 500gb ATA disks except the one on the MacPro, which has a 320gb similar to the main bootdisk on the MacPro... - 4 of them are connected through a FW hub, so they can be turned on/off individually. I'll never buy from them again. It had a two-year warranty. After a year, the power light didn't come on one morning. When I went to open the enclosure to try the disk in another one, I found a sticker saying opening it would void my warranty. As I could have bought the enclosure alone, this restriction was an unpleasant surprise. I told tech support I was reluctant to mail a disk that had personal information and was my only backup. I told them the external power supply was dead and asked if in their experience that was likely to be the only problem. They wouldn't tell me a thing. After 3 days they said they had a power supply for sale. I bought it. The drive failed after four hours. This time the power supply was ok. I mailed the drive in. They sent it back with a third power supply and a sheet showing that the drive had been thoroughly tested. I plugged it in and the power light didn't come on. I connected it to USB and blew my hub. When I told macsales I wanted to return it for repair under warranty, they said I'd probably get it back in the same condition. If they'd told me at the outset that they would not honor their warranty, they would have saved me a lot of time, money, and worry. I got a MacAlly PHR-100 enclosure for my disk. It will boot my G4, and if anything goes wrong someday, I can open the enclosure without voiding a warranty.

At least if you have a question about the MiniStacks you're redirected to OwC.... Apart from this I cant' recognize the story, J.Burns is telling. I have also two MiniStack V3 and they have worked just fine now for more than three years. - OK, I've burned off one of the PSUs but I think it was my own fault by unplugging it from the mains before turning it off on the V3, so you can't blame OWC for that. I have made tradings with OWC since 1998 and have never had a single thing to say against them! - Just the opposite... Once I bought a couple of Mercury enclosures and in one of these cases the small bag with screws for mounting the harddisk was missing, so I sent a mail about what to do and if these screws were standard - the screw-heads were more flatten than the ones I had in the screw-box. 'OWC Larry' answered that it was correct that these screws were more flattened than normal HD screws and that he would send me the missing bag. Three days later FedEx rang my doorbell and delievered a small package from OWC. - Inside wasn't only the screws but the full mounting kit! - That I will indeed call for very fine customer's service!!! - And that all the way from the US here to Denmark - sent as 'express delievery'.... PS. Of course I'll order a new powersupply for my MiniStack V3 at OWC. This PSU btw. is the exact same as for the Mercury Elite Pro enclosures, so I think I'll order at least two, since that specific type can't be found here...
