application 'a whirl', especially one that registers dll's, changes

True, but ubuntu is no harder than windows now. I agree that
in "the old days" linux was a pita, but it is very easy now. You
really should try double-booting windows/ubuntu 10.04. Even if it's
just to show your linux badge off, and strut around. You might even
discover other uses for it.
