From: Cymbal Man Freq. on 22 Apr 2010 23:27 I just came from my Dad's computer and while downloading/installing some Windows Updates (Net Framework SP 2 patches, etc) the machine ground to a halt so I had to hard reboot. Now folders, Control Panel, My Documents, My Computer, Explorer.exe, etc. won't open and they lock up the machine if I try, then I have to hard reboot again. This affects at least 2 of the 4 Users on the XP Pro machine, I don't know why. I went to File Types in one user & tried to enable .exe but it won't let me click Apply so something isn't working there. I saw a YouTube video where some kid went into the registry and under the Winlogon key he clicked on Shell and had us retype explorer.exe, but that didn't help. I went to Kellys Korner and downloaded and ran the registry hack for .exe files that don't work and that didn't help. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I ran a virus scan & came up empty. Ran a Scan disk, no problems. I'd like to do a backup, since the last one was last August, but I'd rather get the folders and stuff working first. What to do? |
