How can I copy big ranges of cells without drag or copy/paste?

Convert Text to Date Month and Year
Hi I have a cell for example that displays 03/07 as a text field for month and year. I want it converted to date field to display as = mar-07 or march 2007. when I use format or text function it converts to 03/07/2010.
