If it only has two sockets, it's an older iMac. The two sockets are

If it's a newer iMac G4, it would have three sockets - speakers,
headphones, Line-in. <http://is.gd/eend1>

If your iLamp only has headphone and speaker ports, is it the same
machine you used to use for transferring audio? If it is I can only
imagine you must've used some kind of USB input - do you have an iMic?

you could just attach the mini disc to a decent stereo and then connect
said stereo to the mac....

Don't follow any of this! The OP said they used to use the MD-Mac for
recording. Pd suggests the Mac may never have been able to do this?
Huge's suggestion will only work if there's a line in - although i can't
see the point, direct connection would work just as well.

Could the OP let us know which Mac and MD they have?

Thanks - it's a newer one. Totally forgot about what the line in socket
did!
