From: ausmsn on 11 Mar 2010 12:59 Hi, I have re-installed Win 7 on my PC several times for one reason or another. Not for any major problems - simply to get better defrag - to reset the registry etc. I have an on-board RealTek Hi Def sound card. A number of times, windows live update has downloaded and installed the updated driver for this on-board sound, without any problems. However, after my recent install, WIN 7 downloaded and attempted to install the update - but for some reason this time, it was a failure. I know the driver works and that my realtek on-board sound works, as I have used them a good few times before. MY PROBLEM is this. When I look at the 'Review Windows UpDate History' , I discover this line , from which I copy the details below. ======================================== Realtek - Network - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Installation date: 16/02/2010 19:00 Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80070005 Update type: Optional Realtek Network software update released in December, 2009 ============================================== Ok, So since I know it works - I want to re-install it right? Accept! I cannot find anywhere in the Windows update section of the control panel HOW TO DO THIS!!?? When I run 'CHECK FOR UPDATES' I simply get 'Windows up to date' despite the fact that this very important driver isn't installed! HOw do I get it to re-install?

First of all, NEVER install hardware drivers issued by Microsoft unless they pertain to Microsoft hardware. Head to Realtek's site and download and install the latest drivers for your chip Problem solved. The fact that you're constantly redoing your OS tells me your screwing around too much. Back off before you do some real damage. -- "Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you."
