Running a MacBook with 10.6 and GE 5.1.3

At some time in the past, I used to be able to navigate around with just
the trackpad. Now two fingers just zooms and one finger does nothing.
Have to use the controllers in the top right which are far less
intuitive. Can anyone tell me how to get navigation back into the
trackpad? I use to use a mouse with GE. Maybe I have to go back to a
mouse?
