From: Frank P. Eigler on
I believe the card is the stock ATI 2600 XT 256MB (two dual-link DVI
ports) running under 10.5.8 on a 2 x2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro
w/6G RAM.

System profiler shows:

Vendor: ATI(0x1002)
Device ID: 0x9580
Revision ID: 0x000

The two monitors were
independently confirmed as working, but they both (!) have abruptly
stopped working with the ATI card. I've been using this same configuration
since early Jan without problems.

System profiler states "No Kext Loaded", and shows nothing under Display
Connector.

Any ideas on how to ID or fix the problem?

Thanks.

: Take it to a Genius Bar, have them order the parts, and replace it under
: your AppleCare warranty?

: No warranty? Scour eBay, local Craigslist, or swap meets for a similar
: system to salvage for parts and do it yourself. Or try several of the
: on-line Mac parts places to see if they have a card that might work.

Thanks, I'll certainly look at that if a replacement is needded (no
warranty). I'm more curious at the moment to determine if this is a
repairable problem.

: If you're used to opening up a system, access to the graphic card should
: be easy. Getting a working replacement will be the challenge,
: especially if they aren't made any more. Otherwise, pay to have it
: fixed or recycle it and get a newer system.

: Some people couldn't find the dipstick if their life depended on it.
: YMMV, obviously.

Understood - and thanks. So it sounds like this is definitely a graphics
card gone bad? I had hoped the "No kext found" indicated a
possible software fix ...
