I am finding that in addition to being helpful for netCDF files, the Netcdf-Java Toolbox for Matlab (njTBX) seems to work quite well for accessing GRIB files - both of the gen 1 and grib2 flavors - on both Windows and linux. Yes, because we are inundated with lazy people who ask a question before making any attempt to find the answer for themselves. Pointless?
