From: rjpalace on 26 Nov 2009 12:10 The printer wont respond to any command. It is brand new and operating on windows 7. The on/off switch has no effect, it just stays on till the plug is pulled. Then the next time it is turned on it dows the same thing. Question is, is there a method to reset the nardware in some way. Any help would be appreciated. Richard

If you were to plug it in and turn it on and then attempt to turn it off without any attempt to give it any commands from the computer again would it turn off ? Consider getting in touch with HP tech support. It seems that if the printer is new that HP would have a phone number you could call gratis to get some quick help here. -- Jan Alter bearpuf(a)verizon.net
From: Arthur Entlich on 27 Nov 2009 06:27 If you disconnect it from the computer is there a way to print a test page? (Check instructions) If so, try to and see if it acts correctly. If so, the problem *may* be corrupt drivers. I would try uninstalling the driver files and then reinstall. Make sure you follow the exact procedure suggested my HP, in terms of sequence, as to when you load drivers versus when you physically attach the printer to the printer. This is particularly important with USB connected printers. A reset procedure for the firmware should be indicated in the manual if it can be user accomplished. AFAIR the power switch does not act directly on the mains, in that it not a mains current rated power switch, but is a contact making switch (like on most PC's) that wakes up the electronics. If so there is a good chance that as nothing happens when mains power is connected, the on/off switch is not being scanned, so the printer does not turn on. Usually something happens when you press the on switch, lights come on, accompanied by a few whirrs and clunks. Is it sold as Win7 compatible? Win7 seems to have fewer drivers than XP, which gave me problems. I'd contact HP support. If bought from a high street retail outlet with a 16 day return policy, and HP can't help, take it back for a refund. It's possible that some returns "accidently" - they wouldn't do a thing like that would they? But then PC World were reported in the media as selling, as new, a PC with someone elses details on it, think they pleaded it was an accidental mix-up" Doesn't this model support an RJ45 wired Ethenet connection? If so with power connected, it should have or aquire an IP address, and there are free utilities that scan and detect devices on the local network. It should show up, and if it does, at least the PSU and "some" of the electronics are working. That is one could assume that the processors crystal oscillator that drives everything, and the PSU isn't kaput.
