From: Joe on 14 Jan 2010 22:55 I found this item on ebay - how does it work or is there a secret to it? Does someone know????????? I think its just the service sheet emailed and a scam to make money from the gullible (didn't they remove that word from the dictionary?) I haven't referenced the ebay item, just copied the information. You can look it up if want. Can this same information be downloaded elsewhere? Thanks ........................................................................................... HP TONER OUT OVERRIDE 1600 2600 2605, plus HP Color LaserJet CM1015 MFP and HP Color LaserJet CM1017 MFP HP TONER CARTRIDGE RUN OUT OVERRIDE secret from a service technician! WILL MAKE YOUR 3 COLOR & BLACK TONER CARTRIDGES PRINT EXTRA PAGES AND GO FARTHER... MOST TIMES 800 to 1500 or even more PAGES! NO RESET CHIPS NEEDED. This is an easy to follow guide explaining how you are able to override the Cartridge Out / Toner Out messages on certain HP printers (see below). Like other brand toners, these cartridges have a special page counter smart chip on each one and this chip tells the printer that the toner has run out. You would then normally spend a fortune to replace the color toner carts before you can use the printer to continue printing. The fault is that the counter on the cart's smart chip only counts the amount of pages printed and not the actual amount of toner thats still in the cart. This means you throw away the old cartridge which still has plenty of toner in each of the 4 units! The mfr wants you to put a new one (or all four) in. Obviously, the amount of toner left varies, but sometimes you can get over 900 or more pages out of the toner thats left that you would normally throw away. Now taking all this into consideration, think of how much money you could save just by doing this with 1 cartridge!!!! These printers have 4 carts in them! HP charges over $99.00 each for new toner carts.... Now in this auction the winning bidder will receive a very simple to follow set of instructions on how to change a configuration setting on the printer which overides the toner's chip and allows you to use the extra toner. Remember to give your printer a gentle side to side shake or spin to evenly disperse the toner inside the 4 toner trays. It takes just 10 to 15 seconds to do this and then you can save money and change your toner less often!! You dont even have to open up the printer. You just press a button or 2 or 3 on the printer's front panel. So do yourself a good turn and save yourself a lot of money and get this info! Upon winning this auction you will receive your purchase quickly! This toner saver info works with these HP color laser printers----- HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer HP Color LaserJet 2605 Printer HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Printer HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn Printer HP Color LaserJet CM1015 MFP HP Color LaserJet CM1017 MFP NOT TO BE RESOLD ON EBAY. NO -NO- RESALE RIGHTS. We will prosecute per ebay. Digital delivery.....
From: Arthur Entlich on 15 Jan 2010 08:00 A few interesting things about this. 1) This person seems to think he/she has a "corner" on information that is available both in the instruction manual and on the web if you do a Google search for free, and which they have no ownership of. 2) He/she is selling "free information" 3) HP should be ashamed of itself for not having this information front and center of the manual, especially if the printer is not a network printer. HP color printers do a countdown on the cartridges based in part on toner coverage. This apparently is accomplished by a sampling of a small percentage of the pixels which it then interpolates over the entire page. Depending upon the printer, some read each color and some only read general amount of toner used on one color and generalize it to the other colors. This can cause great misreadings, particularly if you do a lot of monochrome printing which uses no color toners. There are indeed chips that read the toner levels based upon the usage information as mentioned above. These can be rewritten with the correct equipment or they can be replaced (if you do refilling). However, there is a software solution HP offers which allows you to run the cartridge until it is empty. They claim the reason they do not make it the default, is because if it is a network printer, you may not be in the location where the printer is located. If it ran out of one of the toners, you might not know it and might print many useless prints which had streaked or lacked one color. It is also to allow you to know your cartridges may be running low so you can purchase a new one, and on some models, they will contact HP via the network/internet and order for you. That might be fine for a large corporation which cares more about "productivity" over cost and wastage, but for individuals, keeping cost down may be more critical. Also, not all of the listed printers are networked printers, so the worst that would happen is a page or two of bad color. Running the cartridge "dry" shouldn't damage anything (this isn't an inkjet printer). The way to run the cartridges until they are empty depends upon the printer model, but the basic issue is you need to shut down the printer reading the toner sensors. With most HP printers, you are looking for "toner sensor override" or "cartridge out override" Here's the basic HP instructions (for the 2600n), your printer instructions might be slightly different. If you do not have the instructions, you can download them from the HP website. =========================== The HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer displays an Order supplies message when a cartridge is running low and a Replace supplies message when a cartridge has been depleted. To ensure optimal print quality, HP recommends replacing a cartridge when the Replace supplies message is displayed. Replacing the cartridge at this point can help prevent waste of media or other cartridges when one cartridge produces poor print quality. The Cartridge Out Override feature allows the printer to continue using a cartridge that has reached the recommended replacement point. WARNING! Using Override may result in unsatisfactory print quality and unavailability of certain features (such as toner remaining information). WARNING! All print defects or supply failures incurred when an HP supply is used in Override will not be considered defects in materials or workmanship in the supply under HP's Print Cartridge Limited Warranty Statement. Configuration Cartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printer's control panel menu. 1. From the main menu, press (RIGHT ARROW) to System setup and press Check Mark button (SELECT). 2. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press the Check Mark button (SELECT). 3. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Replace supplies and press Check Mark button (SELECT). 4. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Override out and press Check Mark button (SELECT). 5. Press (Check Mark button SELECT). If "Stop at out" is selected, the printer will stop printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. If "Override out" is selected, the printer will continue printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. The factory default setting is "Stop at out". On-going operation Override can be enabled or disabled at any time, and does not have to be re-enabled for each cartridge. The printer will automatically continue printing when a cartridge reaches recommended replacement. The printer will display a message "Replace supply Override in use" while a cartridge is used in Override mode. When the cartridge is replaced with a new supply, Override will de-activate until another cartridge reaches recommended replacement. NO CHARGE ;-) Oh, and don't tell anyone else! ;-) Art If you are interested in issues surrounding e-waste, I invite you to enter the discussion at my blog: http://e-trashtalk.spaces.live.com/ Joe wrote: > I found this item on ebay - how does it work or is there a secret to it? > > Does someone know????????? > > I think its just the service sheet emailed and a scam to make money from > the gullible (didn't they remove that word from the dictionary?) > > I haven't referenced the ebay item, just copied the information. From: Joe on 16 Jan 2010 21:06 Art I thought it was something easy. I had a feeling that it may have been up on the web somewhere although I haven't looked just placed it up on the group. There are some people here that should know. Thanks BTW where is that replacement ink twit not seen a mention for some time, hope I haven't spoken too soon :) r
From: Periproct on 23 Jan 2010 09:34 Snipped...... Perfect timing. Thanks. Just had the toner out message and turned it off. I have spare cartridges but if no harm will come from running them dry I might as well go for it.

You could have bought the information off eBay - electronically transfered - sounded good :)
