From: ZalekBloom on 2 May 2010 17:18 I purchased HTC HD2 phone, but I didn't sign any contract with T-Mobile or other telephone company. I plan to use as a PDA. Here are my questions: 1. Can we use google maps without internet access? 2. Can we use other map software (tomTom?) which will use built in GPS? 3. Can we use other map software which is using external GPS (with bluetooth)? 4. HTC HD2 have installed program which display movies (starts when I click on the Transformers files). What is a name of this program? How can I start this program and from this program open video file? Thanks, Zalek

No, because Google Maps needs to access the internet in order to access the mapping data. > > 2. Can we use other map software (tomTom?) which will use built in > GPS? Yes you can, as TomTom will work without an internet connection (well at least my version does) > > 3. Can we use other map software which is using external GPS (with > bluetooth)? Yes > > 4. I can access Google Maps with my actual PDA(iPAQ) through WiFi. Of course this has limited usability since the range of my WiFi isn't too great :ob. Rather interesting though, it shows my location within about a block just from my IP address. Says it can use an internal GPS but so far doesn't seem to have noticed mine. Not that it would make a difference since it'd quickly run out of map. Just downloaded it a couple of days ago so don't really know how usefull it'll actually be. Can look things up before going or if stopped at a hot spot. Does make me wish I had enough use to justify phone with enough data to make it usefull. Mapping is only slightly newer than the aging TomTom6 map I have. Satelite and street view imagery is killer though. Looking at gas stations, for instance, could see a picture of the station and area it's in before ever being there. Don't know if it makes any difference, to other PDA users, but I previously put the files in mine that makes it look like a phone so could try SkyFire. For me it was worth the try just for the experince even if I don't really get any more out of it.

Of course, when relying on it, it doesn't allow for free navigation, but this may be of help. 2. you might want to ask the dev of mapdroyd (see http://www.mapdroyd.com/ ) and other Android apps (see their list at http://androidforums.com/android-applications/2149-caching-google-maps-use- offline.html ) to port their app to WinMo. The same stands for the various iPhone projects (see e.g. http://code.google.com/p/iphoneofflinemap/ ) 3. NaviComputer is a native(!!!) WinMo app (free!), which you may also want to check out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581474
