Hi Greg,

Conversion from latin1 to others should be quite easy. You can declare the encoding in SAS datastep at the set statement. There should be a sascommunity tip on this as well.

Subject: Has anyone used DBCS configuration

I work in the US for a company headquartered in Japan. Our parent company
has suggested that when we install SAS 9.2 we install it as DBCS. This is
so they will not need to convert their data sets to a SBCS format whenthey
send them to us (this is don on an infrequent basis). I've been doing
some research on DBCS, mostly by studing the SAS NLS documentation, and it
appears that making this change could have serious implications for how we
work in the US. Just to be clear, we would still use LATIN1 encoding (our
current setting) but we would specify DBCS as our default encoding. IAt
least that's what I think we would do. Could anyone who has worked in
this type of environment comment on how easy the conversion is for users,
what th wtch out for, any tips to make the transition smoother, etc.?
Thanks.

Greg
