From: JGT on 31 Mar 2010 02:24 I have a document that I've updated numerous times and the original document was created several years ago in an earlier version of word (at this time I have no idea what version of word was used). The main section of the document starts of with using a heading level two and the heading is correctly numbered as 1.1 the headings that follow seem to be OK until I get to page 21, in the middle of the page I've added a new heading level 3 and the number appears as 4.1.1 whereas the previous heading level 3 (on page 18) is numbered 1.1.2. There are no headings between the two headings and I only have one section in the entire document. All of the headings that follow the heading on page 21 seem to be in-sync with the heading on page 21. Between the two headings I have a table with three columns where column 1 contains a number to identify the row. Some of the rows either contain numbered list or bullet list. When viewing the TOC there are no headings between 1.1.1 and 4.1.1 How do I determine what the heading 4.1.1 is linked to and/or correct the numbering issue, e.g. the heading should be numbered 1.1.3. I've tried setting the number value but this did nothing for me.

OK I resolved the issue - the error was due to a number format used in the table. The numbered items did NOT appear as headers and when I inspected the style or formatting of the numbered items nothing I could see informed me what the problem was. I removed the numbering and the problem disappeared. I've resolved the issue but I don't know the cause. |
