I've used sheet-metal, wood, and plastic to fabricate project boxes. basically whatever was on hand, also re-used existing vessels. (jars, cans, cases etc...) For metal boxes just include an insulating spacer between the circuit and the case. wood, plastic, several layers of electricians tape, or part of the PCB itself. it may be advantageous to have the box connected the circuits internal ground node.
