Hi,

Here's (maybe) a better pkginfo. Should I pkgrm all of these?

bash-2.05# pkginfo | egrep '(Java|J2|JDK)' | grep SUNWj
system SUNWj2dem JDK 1.2 demo programs
system SUNWj2man JDK 1.2 man pages
application SUNWj2pi Java Plug-in
system SUNWj2rt JDK 1.2 run time environment
system SUNWj3dev J2SDK 1.4 development tools
system SUNWj3dmo J2SDK 1.4 demo programs
system SUNWj3dvx J2SDK 1.4 development tools
(64-bit)
system SUNWj3irt JDK 1.4 I18N run time
environment
system SUNWj3man J2SDK 1.4 man pages
system SUNWj3rt J2SDK 1.4 runtime environment
system SUNWj3rtx J2SDK 1.4 runtime
environment (64-bit)
system SUNWjaf Java Activation Framework
system SUNWjaxp Java API for XML Parsing 1.2
system SUNWjcom Java Communications API
system SUNWjcomx Java Communications API
(64-bit)
application SUNWjhdem JavaHelp Demos
application SUNWjhdev JavaHelp Development Utilities
application SUNWjhdoc JavaHelp Documentation
application SUNWjhrt JavaHelp Runtime
system SUNWjmail Java Mail Runtime
system SUNWjmfp Java Media Framework Player
system SUNWjsnmp Java SNMP API
system SUNWjss Network Security Services
for Java (JSS)
system SUNWjssx Network Security Services
for Java (JSS) (64-bit)
bash-2.05#

Hi,

It looks like there are a bunch of things that depend on SUNWjdev:

bash-2.05# pkgrm SUNWj3dev

The following package is currently installed:
SUNWj3dev J2SDK 1.4 development tools
(sparc) 1.4.2,REV=2005.03.04.21.47

Do you want to remove this package? [y,n,?,q] y

Do you want to continue with the removal of this package [y,n,?,q]

That includes SMC, SunONE App server, and Tomcat :(...

Not sure what we'll do about removal at this point :(...

I would upgrade these to the latest.

The latest SUNWj2rt and friends (aka JDK 1.2) are available here.

Sun's Java stove-pipe didn't have the Solaris systems
life-cycle in mind when they EOL'd those bits.

Here's the InfoDoc regarding SUNWj3* (aka Java SE v1.4.2) support:
<URL:http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-61-255468-1>

Hopefully things will improve in Solaris Next.

For Solaris 9, I would upgrade the SUNWj2rt and SUNWj3rt and
related packages to the latest.
