From: MIG on 2 Jan 2010 19:35 Hi, I just finished a new computer build and am trying to load windows XP. I am able to boot to the CD and it starts to load the set-up files. When this finishes I get a blue screen error that says: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed harddrives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I tried loading XP on both a SATA drive and an older IDE drive with the same error. I also tried Win 2000 on the IDE drive and got a similar error and an inaccessible drive error message after the setup files loaded. I tried all the memory in different slots without any change. The following are the hardware info. Asus MB: M4A79XTD EVO http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=vk9Pqxby9MjO0WHm&templete=2 Memory: Crucial http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148262 Western Digital Caviar Black 750 GB HD AMD Phenom II X2 550 Callisto Asus suggested I download and burn Linux to a CD and see if it loads. I would try this but I really dont know which version of Linux to use. I also feel there is a fix here if only I knew what direction to go. Any additional info needed please let me know. Please help - It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

From: MIG on 2 Jan 2010 20:35 I will check the ram. I do not have it overclocked though. "philo" wrote: > MIG wrote: > > Hi, I just finished a new computer build and am trying to load windows XP. From: MIG on 2 Jan 2010 20:40 I just tried something. I went into the BIOS and changes the OnChip SATA type from AHCI to IDE. When I did I did not get the error screen on both the SATA drive and IDE drive. Now this will allow me to load XP but obviously I want to change the type back to AHCI. Any suggestions as to what I need to do here... I think I need the drivers for this - will SP3 have them if I get it and install it??? Thanks again. I never would have thought of that one I don't think XP supports AHCI (IIRC it's supported in Vista and Win7) so you will probably want to keep your bios settings as they are Once you get XP installed and working you may want to see if there are AHCI drivers avail > Thanks again. > > "MIG" wrote: > >> Hi, I just finished a new computer build and am trying to load windows XP.
