If you don't get one, is the System Event Log recording anything? > right clicking on the .inf files to install them That won't work outside of special INF files that install software...like the old TweakUI installation method. > from safe mode etc. ....and I'm pretty sure that won't do it, because required services and supporting drivers won't be running. I absolutely would not expect that safe mode driver installations would function as intended. Several that I have tried did not--and sometimes I had a much worse mess on my hands afterwards. Do you have .NET and the latest Windows Installer in place? The complete ATI package requires .NET for Catalyst Control Center. If you don't want .NET, a simple driver (without CCC) is available. I think there is a need for more information. Posting to the ATI group (alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati) might help as well. William

From the error log; Driver Install: user must be a member of the Administrators group (but I am) > I absolutely would not expect that safe mode driver installations > would function as intended. Hmm ok, thought it was worth a punt :-} > Do you have .NET and the latest Windows Installer in place? The > complete ATI package requires .NET for Catalyst Control Center. From: Colin Wilson on 11 Jan 2010 17:56 Even with the stand-alone driver (which still seems to want to use the catalyst installer) I get the same error as before; > From the error log; > Driver Install: user must be a member of the Administrators group It had a good go at copying all the files across, it just gives an "installation complete, warnings occurred" with the error as shown above :-(
From: William R. Walsh on 11 Jan 2010 20:02 Hi! > > From the error log; > > Driver Install: user must be a member of the Administrators group That is really very strange. Have you tried creating a new administratively privileged user account to see what happens then? I also wonder about the driver signing requirement...Windows 2000 and XP both can be set to reject non-signed drivers. I would have thought that ATI would be signing all their drivers, but I still see hardware vendors that do not. It's worth a shot. My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Driver Signing button. Sometimes error messages can be deceiving.
