I'd just like to reiterate my Coolpix P100 versus Canon G11 question
here. (The Coolpix' sensor is backlit. The G11 is 1/1.7.)

Ricoh never has made a decent piece of photographic equipment.

Nonsense.

Ricoh made some very good XR series 35mm SLRs that used the Pentax K
lens mount. There was also a range of excellent 35mm point and shoot
cameras with a fixed 28mm lens - the GR1, GR1s and GR1v. Many
professional shooters used GR series cameras to complement their SLR
outfits.

However, Ricoh's digital offerings have so far been disappointing.

It was all amateur junk.
