I have a line graph of accounts on the Y-axis, plotted against months on the
x-axis.
I extended the axis for 2008 (in Excel 2000), I now want to extend it again
for 2010, but I am having trouble.

This is how I would do it
Open the x-axis format dialog and open first tab 'Axis Options'
In the first two items set the smallest and highest x-axis label value
Type in a 2010 date as needed
Is this what you tried?
Do you have a Line or an XY chart?
Excel 2007 had problems with setting limits in an XY chart when the values
are dates.
Here is the workaround: type the required date into a cell on the worksheet
(say 31-dec-2010)
Now format that cell General to get the date serial number (40543)
Enter this 5 digit number into the box in the axis format dialog rather than
an actual date
The problem is fixed in Excel 2010 beta
best wishes

Are you actually trying to get it to include more data? Or have you
added the data but it is not showing up on the chart due to a truncated
axis?
It sounds to me like the first one, in which case you need to go to the
Chart Tools|Design ribbon and click the Select Data button (or right
click the chart and choose this).
Find the relevant series in the list on the left, select it and then
click on edit button.
Change the range defined for the series values in the second box (either
by hand, changing the column or row number as appropriate, or by
re-selecting the correct range)

OK to everything

Hope this helps.

Finally getting back to my problem. I had selected the data range as
suggested by AdemV, but the graph was still truncated. I finally formatted
the horizontal axis as suggested by Bernard and solved the problem. I should
have known that. Thanks for the help guys.
