What version of Eudora are we considering here?

Just to make additionally sure that we're "on the same page,"
are you referring to the columns in windows
which list all the messages in a mailbox?

The default order for mailbox columns in "Classic" v7 is:

Status, Junk score, Priority, Attachment, Label, Who,
Date, Size, Server status, Mood Watch, Subject
(in other words, the exact same order as listed in
Tools > Options > Mailboxes, reading downward first;
of course, only the check-marked columns actually appear)

If you can change that order, let me know how.

If the column format (stored in any specific mailbox TOC file)
becomes corrupted and you can no longer adjust the column widths,
the classic recipe for correction is:

o Transfer all messages to a new, originally empty mailbox,
thus leaving the corrupted mailbox empty instead.
o Close the corrupted mailbox before closing Eudora.
o Close Eudora.
o Delete the corrupted (empty) mailbox' TOC file.
o Launch Eudora.
o Move mail back from the temporary mailbox to the original mailbox.
o You may delete the now empty temporary mailbox.

Move and resize the individual internal windows as desired.

As to accidental window re-arranging, usually
an accidental release of the mouse under the "Window" menu.

Once done, you have to manually resize and re-position
each window whose current layout you want to change back,
the same as in any "MDI" (multiple document) Windows application.

A corrupted TOC may result from too much mail in a mailbox,
particularly In, Out, Trash or Junk, which are permanent
and have their TOCs in volatile RAM memory all the time
(archive excess old mail by moving to user-created mailboxes).

All is ok now since I emptied a very full IN box. I can alter the
widths thanks to your help.

Thanks,
