In PowerPoint, select the "Insert" tab, click "Object" button, locate and
select "Microsoft Equation 3.0" and click OK button.

You don't. You insert an equation in either Word or PowerPoint. As the
PowerPoint module has been answered, Word is similar. Insert tab, then in
the Symbols section click the great BIG icon that says "Equation".
