Using 2007 version, small vertical bar running down lhs side of calendar
(just to right of times) for selected date, inside bar is written "previous
appointment" , cannot open or delete, cannot insert new appointment in that
time frame...anybody else hit this wall? Cannot be an appointment since
never used this %$#(&^ programme before. Tnx r2p2

Display your calendar in a table view like By Category, select the bogus
appointment and hold Shift while pressing Delete. That should clear it out.

The previous (and next button) as seen in this screenshot
http://slipstick.me/jing/previousnext.png are just shortcuts to the
previous or next appointment. It should not affect your ability to create
new appointments - use the New button or click in the middle of time period,
away from the previous and next tabs.
