How to attach another Word Document to the existing one if both have
different formats and I want to preserve them.
From: Peter T. Daniels on
Use Insert to place the second document into the first one. Be sure to
put a Section Break New Page at the beginning of the second document
before you do so. Are there headers/footers in either or both?

Word2007, Insert tab > Object > Text from File.

Word2003, Insert > File (IIRC).

If the two documents have different formats using the same style names then
what you ask is not possible. Separating the documents with section breaks
as suggested by Peter will work if you have different formats with different
style names.
