I need to cancel a task in Microsoft Project file but without deleting it.
what is the best way to do this?
From: Trevor Rabey on
Give it a zero planned duration, and it will be as if it never happened.
If the task is in the past, give it zero actual duration and zero remaining
duration and mark it 100% complete.

Trevor's response is correct for Project 2007 and earlier. Project 2010
includes a new feature which allows inactivating tasks which keeps them
visible but does not include them in the regular schedule calculations.

However, I seem to remember somewhere that this feature will only be available in the Project Pro version.

You are correct, Mike. Inactive tasks are only available in
Professional, not Standard versions
