Unfortunately, Usenet is densely populated with useless people like that. Anyway, if you find the answer please do publish here, for I for one would be interested too.

Certainly leafnode is simpler for a small site, but might be less appropriate for a larger-volume server. --keith -- kkeller-usenet(a)wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information

Certainly leafnode is simpler for a small site, but > might be less appropriate for a larger-volume server. True, the statement was a bit simple. But leafnode works better in so many circumstances. If the OP doesn't plan on managing a news server for a provider, leafnode covers most needs nicely. It recovers better from a crash, is lightweight, easy (very easy) to configure, manages mulpliple (usernet & corporate) upstream servers smoothly, etc... I run one for my home needs and one as our company news "proxy". I pull news from several upstream servers, both usenet or corporate ones, simplifying the use in the news readers. I can plan to avoid binary downloads, or schedule them to only run at night. (At home, I have a monthly volume limit, with volume counted half during the night). Don't know what the OP really needs, but I know the pain in setting up and maintaining the old dinosaur that is IN. As I said, it has it place in very high traffic situations, but otheriwse I consider using it an exercisse in style, not an answer to a real need. PS: Don't use ReiserFS on the partition leafnode has its spool (/var/spool/news). ReiserFS handles a large, often changing collections of small files with all the elegance of a constipated, drunk brontosaurus. Use Ext3 with the dir_index flag on. -- Any time things appear to be going better, you have overlooked something.
