Can anyone tell me how the contents of a project be exported to an excel file?

Yes, we can tell you.

Menu: File/Save As, pick "Save as Type" as Workbook or Pivot table (your
choice).

If using Project 2007, You'll also want to experiment with Menu:
Report/Visual Reports.

Hope this works for you.

Hi,

in addition with versions older than 2007 you can use to export timephased
data the feature "Analyze Timescaled Data in Excel" from "Analysis" toolbar.
