Experimenting more, in sax2, no matter what mode or monitor I choose,
the test screen always comes up as 640 x 480!

Mystery solved!

I booted into Windows, and also got lousy results. And the Nvidia
driver there said that the resolution was not supported (after testing
it). But I knew it was there. So I switched from the digital input of
the monitor to the analog input. And voila, both Windows and SuSE
worked! I wish I understood why....

Thanks for the help,
Jim

I guess the digital output is not telling the system which type of
monitor is connected....
Maybe you've got a cable that is not fully wired? Or are you using a
conversion plug?

It was digital to digital with no conversion cable. Now I am using a
converter to analog, since both video outputs are digital.
