Mystery solved! I booted into Windows, and also got lousy results. And the Nvidia driver there said that the resolution was not supported (after testing it). But I knew it was there. So I switched from the digital input of the monitor to the analog input. And voila, both Windows and SuSE worked! I wish I understood why.... Thanks for the help, Jim

Maybe you've got a cable that is not fully wired? Or are you using a conversion plug? Joost
