From: Edhy Rijo on 2 Apr 2010 13:47 Hi guys, Is it possible to upgrade a SBS2003 to SBS2008 using the same server hardware? I understand that SBS2008 will only install in 64bits and my server supports 64bits OS but I have SBS2003 32bits, can this upgrade be done? Thanks! -- Edhy Rijo Bronx NY
From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 2 Apr 2010 14:41 Hi Edhy: There is no upgrade path of 2003 to 2008 as we used to understand it. It is now called "migrate". You can migrate your AD and Exchange to a new SBS 2008 from the SBS 2003, but it is not as easy as it was to do 2000 to 2003 on the same hardware. One way I might do it would be if the 2003 was running on RAID1 so i could move one drive to the shelf just in case. Or, if I had known good images that could be restored easily. However, there is a proven third party solution for this that is well supported. Contact www.sbsmigration.com to see if your situation is supported in his methodolgy. It might be just the ticket. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Hi guys, > > Is it possible to upgrade a SBS2003 to SBS2008 using the same server > hardware? > > I understand that SBS2008 will only install in 64bits and my server > supports 64bits OS but I have SBS2003 32bits, can this upgrade be > done? > > Thanks! >
From: Edhy Rijo on 2 Apr 2010 15:12 Hi Larry, Thanks a lot for the information. I will investigate at www.sbsmigration.com to see what is available. Since this is a small network, I believe I could just do a clean install instead, but just trying to see if I can save some configuration time if an upgrade path is available. In the case of a clean installation, is there a document/article available on the way to go? I remember 5 years ago there was some documents for SBS2003, just want to see my options before committing to this change, all workstations are being upgraded to Windows 7 and it may make sense to upgrade to SBS208. -- Edhy Rijo www.progytech.com Bronx NY "Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP]" <lstruckmeyer(a)mis-wizards.com> wrote in message news:4e683515e2898cca089acb2376c(a)news.microsoft.com...
