Next: error code 80248009 from windows update.
From: Fred Johansen Fred on 22 Jan 2010 04:58 Lately I have been getting some updates that -- prior to installation -- doesn't seem to have any information associated with them, not even a title. See this screenshot: http://www.pvv.org/~fredj/winupdate-20100122-a-empty.jpg It is only when I install the update that I get to know what it contains. Surely Windows Update is not supposed to work like this. What is the problem? Any information appreciated :-) * Fred

Any third party firewall installed? When was the last time it worked as expected, when did you first notice the issue and what changed in-between? Have you done anything to try and remedy the situation? If so - what? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
From: Daniel on 22 Jan 2010 08:24 Fred, I have the exact same problem on a Windows Server (not r2) 2008 machine. It does not happen on R2 machines. I still didn't find an answer since this is not a show stopper. Just an annoyance. Maybe someone can shed some light on the subject. Was it ever displaying the updates 'properly'? Have you tried anything to fix it yourself (and if so - what?) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Shenan, In my case: Windows Server 2008 x64 Fully updated (SP2 with all updates released later) Symantec Corporate Antivirus No 3rd party firewall My has been like that for months (I can't come to a precise number). But, for sure, at least 3 monthly update cycles (probably more). Everything works, updates are applied, but the list of updates BEFORE applying them shows just a number, it's empty. After everyting is applied they show ok on the log. I didn't do anything so far to remedy it. I just googled my way into here looking for a solution.
