For the past week or so I've encountered an annoying problem when signing in
to eBay. I type the email address and password which ordinarily gets me into
eBay, however now it takes me to a screen that says I've signed out. There's
an option to sign in again, and this time I can get in. I've contacted the
eBay live help 3 times and have followed their instructions; i.e., 1) clear
temp. files, cookies, etc. 2)use Firefox because it's "probably an IE
problem" ??? 3) reboot computer (duh--as if I hadn't done that a number of
times over the past week) 4) remove IE 8 and reinstall IE 7 "because it works
better with eBay. Note, I haven't done this yet because IE 8 has worked just
fine until recently. In addition, I've changed IE 8 to run without add-ons.
Nothing works. It's not a huge problem as I can sign in the second time, but
it's just annoying and I'm curious. I don't seem to have any other problems
with IE 8 and can't help but think it's an eBay problem, but they obviously
don't seem to think so. Any experience with this problem, and does anyone
have any suggestions? Thanks very much for responses.

Click on the small 'userID' underneath the password line and fill in the
appropriate info. Do not use
your e-mail address as an ID. Create an ID.

I don't have a problem with the password and don't want to create a new user
ID. I can sign in the second time--it's the first attempt that takes me to
the sign out page.

You should try Firefox or another browser if only to narrow the problem
down to IE.

Some things to try...

- If you're going to a bookmarked page, don't. Go to the main eBay page
and sign in there. They may have changed their architecture.

- Delete all your IE browsing history, especially the Temp Internet
Files, cookies, and passwords.

- On the Internet Options Privacy tab, delete all the sites listed
whose cookies are blocked. Maybe just setting the slider to "Accept All
Cookies" will suffice.

- On the Programs tab, behind the "Manage add-ons" button, disable most
or all the add-ons. You can re-enable them after testing.

Nil,

You've solved my problem. I had, indeed, used a bookmark to sign in. When
I went to the main eBay page as you suggested I was able to sign in the first
time. I don't know what is meant by changing the architecture, but obviously
something changed. I deleted my old bookmark and saved the new one and
sign-in works as it should now.

I had previously tried all your other suggestions to no avail. The "fix"
was so simple, and one I wouldn't have thought of. Wonder why eBay didn't
know to suggest that. I also wonder why others haven't had the same problem.

Thank you for solving my annoying problem. I hope others will also benefit
from your expertise. Thank you!
