From: Tom on 27 May 2010 03:37 Hi, I have many old photos where the description is written into the comment section of the JPG file itself. Is there any way to access this information when importing those collections into iPhoto? Or else, is there a way the description of a photo in an iPhoto album can be inserted into the file itself? Thanks, Tom

In iPhoto, select a photo and then click the Photos - Show Extended Photo Info in the menu bar at the top. I don't see a comments field with the EXIF data it provides, but I've never added any comments. I just found that when you have a photo selected, you can right-click (Control-Click) on it, select Get Info and see additional information that you can add and edit. I also see that you can select File - Get Info (or command-I) for a photo on the desktop, and you have an editable comments field at the top of the Info window. I don't know how these three options might play together. Fred

In my version of iPhoto (iPhoto '08 v.7.1.5) it says only Show Photo Info, but anyway, I don't see anything editable there either. > I just found that when you have a photo selected, you can right-click > (Control-Click) on it, select Get Info and see additional information > that you can add and edit. Yes, but that seems to be again something different. It looks like an entry for the Spotlight database, whereas the file comments I meant are apparently in the file itself. If you happen to have Xee, you can open a photo, then go to File->Get Info and scroll all the way down in the Info window that opens then. At the bottom, after EXIF other properties, there is a section entitled File comments, which is the one that contains the comments I added in those old (pre-iPhoto) photos of mine; this field is only present, however, if such a comment has been added, otherwise it is apparently omitted, so I don't know if it's something intrinsic of the file format or something added by the program I used for editing.
