From: Mike on 13 May 2010 22:58 Customer has a 2008 SBS, but isn't using SQL, Exchange, Sharepoint - it's basically a file & print server. (Their reasoning was that they may want to use those features in the future) Can I disable things not being used to improve the performance of the server? They are running a network version of Peachtree accounting that is painfully slow!
From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 14 May 2010 06:37 You can. But it may not solve your issue with slow access to such as Peachtree. We could tell better if we had some stats, but there are a number of tools you can use to diagnose bottlenecks on station to server communications. It has been awhile since I have dealt with Peach, but there knowledge base used to have some great articles, and one of the things that moves organizations away from Peach was the size of the data files. IIRC, once they claimed to have reworked their database to allow for bigger data store, but last I dealt with them the program became unusable at about 100 MB. Don't know what they claim now. Loading records / screens from a data store over a network is a function mostly of the ability of the program and its data store to keep up, and disk IO. But memory available and disk space can certainly affect this. Verify free space, RAM and CPU usage, then Performance Monitor, and its Wizard, is probably where I would start. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=31fccd98-c3a1-4644-9622-faa046d69214&displaylang=en - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Customer has a 2008 SBS, but isn't using SQL, Exchange, Sharepoint - > it's > basically a file & print server. > (Their reasoning was that they may want to use those features in the > future) > Can I disable things not being used to improve the performance of the > server? > They are running a network version of Peachtree accounting that is > painfully > slow!
From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 14 May 2010 18:50 Larry is Correct some Stats would be great CPUs Hard Drives, Memory etc... Network Cards If Dell is TOE Disabled? Did you do any Disabling of IPV6 or anything else that could cause issues? Are you trying to TEAM NIC's or something that SBS doesn't support? is this in a Virtual machine? Is this a Standard SBS Install or are you not using wizards? And Manually doing this? etc. Russ -- Russell Grover - SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] MCP, MCPS, MCNPS, SBSC Small Business Server/Computer Support - www.SBITS.Biz BPOS - Microsoft Online Services - www.Microsoft-Online-Services.com "Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP]" <lstruckmeyer(a)mis-wizards.com> wrote in message news:4e683515fa178ccc1470d0741df(a)news.microsoft.com... > You can.
