From: brownh on 17 Mar 2010 18:56 I use a DSL modem for internet connection, and also I have a FAX machine to send and receive FAXes. The problem is that when a FAX comes in, I instinctively pick up my telephone and interrupt the FAX signal. I'd like to be able to disciminate incoming analog phone signals so that incoming FAXs go automatically to my FAX printer rather than ring my phone. I suspect I could connect the filtered telephone line to a fax-modem that has call discrimination. I know such things used to exist, but can't find that described as a capability of the fax-modems now on the market. Am I off base here? Is it possible to bring a filtered telephone line to a fax-modem which leads to both the phone and the FAX machine and have the fax-modem discriminate between the signals so that FAXs go to to the FAX machine printer without ringing my telephone? I have to tell people to alert me exactly when they will send me a FAX so that I don't pick up the phone. To send a FAX to someone without a FAX line or machine, I presently have to convert the document to PDF and send it as an e-mail attachment. What alternatives are there to these issues short of a separate FAX line? Haines Brown
